When Cash Assistance Transformed into a New Life

Abdullah Ahmed Kulaib, 31 years old, lives with his family of four. He was forced to flee from Al Jarahi District in Al Hudaydah Governorate due to conflict, settling in Mashrafah Camp in the Bani Ma'ans area of Wusab As Safil District, Dhamar Governorate.

In the camp, Abdullah tried to adapt to his new reality. He started working using his motorcycle, transporting passengers and goods, relying on it as the main source of income for his family. The motorcycle was his only hope, giving him the ability to earn his daily bread and provide for his children's needs. But on one rainy night, the rain poured heavily, and the floods swept away everything they owned.

Abdullah says:
"The rain destroyed everything... the hut we live in, our household belongings, even the food we had. I used to pray to God for my motorcycle, my source of livelihood, but the floods swept it away and damaged its engine. It stopped working, and I no longer had anything to support my family with."

Abdullah lived through difficult days after the disaster, finding himself unable to provide for his family's daily needs. He saw anxiety in his children's eyes and felt the weight of responsibility, but he never lost hope. Then came the cash assistance provided by the Protection Program at the National Foundation for Development and Humanitarian Response (NAHR), funded by the Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF), which became a turning point in his life.

The support was not only material; he also received psychological support sessions that helped him overcome the trauma and deal with the effects of what happened with confidence and positivity.

Abdullah says with a smile:
"Thanks to the support I received, I was able to repair my motorcycle and go back to work again. I felt that life had returned to me."

Today, Abdullah returns to his work every morning on his motorcycle, carrying with it a story of resilience and hope. The rain no longer frightens him as it did before, because he has regained his ability to support his family and achieve stability once again.

Abdullah's story is not just an individual tale, but a living example of the significant impact cash assistance has on the lives of affected families. It gives them the opportunity to rebuild their lives with dignity and restores their confidence in their ability to face hardships and achieve self-reliance.
