Emergency Response Project in Health and Nutrition to the Vulnerable IDPs and Host Communities in Hajjah and Hodeida

Targeted Number of Beneficiaries: 62,548
 
Project objectives:
- Increasing access of 62,548 beneficiaries to primary and secondary health care, as well as maternal and child health services
- Reducing and further preventing acute malnutrition among children under the age of five and pregnant and lactating women in the targeted districts.
 
Project activities:
1. Health-oriented activities:
• Providing primary and secondary health care services, medical consultations in outpatient clinics, child health care, reproductive health care, measuring mid upper arm circumference at all health service points, conducting malaria examinations for children suffering from acute malnutrition; and providing vaccinations in 9 fixed health facilities.
• Providing risk allowances for health workers in targeted facilities.
• Providing medical equipment, medicines and basic supplies to the targeted health facilities.
• Providing limited rehabilitation for targeted health facilities.
• Supporting the targeted health facilities with operating expenses.
2. Nutrition-oriented activities:
• Treatment of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in an outpatient setting.
• Referring children under the age of five with severe acute malnutrition and medical complications to the health care center.
• Treating children under the age of five with moderate acute malnutrition in the targeted supplementary feeding program.
• Building the capacity of health workers to provide advice to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers on good nutrition practices.
• Setting nutrition advice corners at each nutrition site.
• Implementing meetings every two months for community health volunteers.
• Distributing awareness brochures and posters on health awareness messages.
