A Journey from Darkness to Self-Restoration

In one of the recovery stories that reflects human strength when the right support is found, the tale of S.S. (32 years old) stands out. She nearly lost everything that connected her to her identity. She had been living a quiet family life as a mother of several children before marital disputes escalated, driving her into a harsh experience that ended in separation and then a painful estrangement from her children.

S.S. says:
"The hardest thing I went through wasn't the separation... but waking up one day feeling that I had lost myself."

Under the weight of the trauma, S.S. entered a state of extreme isolation, refused food, and her awareness of her surroundings gradually deteriorated. As her condition worsened, she reached a point of detachment from reality, losing her ability to recognize herself; even her name was no longer present in her memory.

"I could see people around me, but I couldn't see myself among them... I felt like a stranger to this world." — S.S.

At this critical stage, an initial assessment of her condition was conducted at the Maswar Rural Hospital. The medical team recognized her urgent need for specialized intervention. Within the framework of the Integrated Life-Saving Emergency Response Project: Response in Food Security, Health, Nutrition, and Protection in Maswar District, Amran Governorate; along with Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) support in Al-Hazm District, Al-Jawf Governorate, implemented with funding from the Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF) and support from the National Foundation for Development and Humanitarian Response (NAHR) , S.S. was included among the targeted cases to receive integrated care.

The treatment journey began with a comprehensive plan combining medical intervention and intensive psychological support. Recovery was not fast; it was a gradual path full of challenges, but with each session, S.S. took a step closer to restoring herself.

One of the care providers says:
"The beginning was difficult, but S.S.'s determination to recover was clear... Over time, she began to regain her balance and self-confidence."

As treatment continued, signs of improvement began to appear; her memory gradually returned, and she regained her ability to concentrate and interact. In a touching moment, S.S. uttered her name again, as if announcing a new birth.

"When I remembered my name... I felt that I had returned to life anew." — S.S.

Today, S.S. lives in a state of psychological stability and is confidently moving towards rebuilding her life. Although the traces of the experience remain, she has become stronger and more capable of facing them.

S.S. concludes her story by saying:
"We may lose ourselves in a moment of weakness... but with the right support, we can find the way back."

The story of S.S. embodies an important truth: that timely professional intervention, and the integration of psychological support with medical treatment, can restore hope to those who thought the road had ended, and give them a real chance to start a new life.
