War and Displacement Abolished the Musfer Family

Years ago, Salamah used to have a happy and peaceful life. Blessed with a small house, a beautiful farm, and lovely family, the man would dream for no more luxury. The work in the farm and selling the crops at reasonable price guaranteed the family's welfare. The family had no single thought that they would leave their little paradise for whatever reason.

But war has no heart and leaves nothing behind except grief. The 55-year old Salamah, his wife and five children were all drifted from their home village (Al-Aql in Kitaf district, Sa'ada) due to the conflict.

The house and small farm, among many others in the area, were bombed in 2015, announcing the beginning of a long journey for Musfer and his family to search for new shelter and safety.

The family left everything behind, and started heading to the village of Khadwan in the same district, which they soon left as the drums of war on land were beating loud, louder than the airstrikes.

Once again, Old Salamah had no choice but moving to a new place where war had not yet reached. The family settled in "Al-Ashash" village; no food, no job, no clothing, no "home." The family slept in the open.

Fortunately, one of NFDHR projects targeted the area where Musfer family settled. The Integrated Emergency Life-Saving Water, Environmental Sanitation and Shelter Activities in Sa'ada Governorate, funded by YHF, and aiming to support 2,670 families in the districts of Hayden and Kitaf with a shelter bag including mattresses, blankets and integrated kitchen tools.

The Musfer family was among the families targeted by the activity of distributing the shelter bag (7 mattresses, 7 blankets and a kitchen tool-bag that includes cooking utensils).

The assistance provided to the family may not meet all the needs for their survival, but it has certainly alleviated their suffering greatly and contributed to protecting them from diseases during winter.
